Crater Concave (2021)

Crater Concave is a fusion of mathematical geometry and the organic shapes of natural geology, specifically inspired by the stalactite formations found in cave systems. The piece explores the intersection of the synthetic and organic, resulting in a contemplative object that invites the viewer to become both a participant and a part of the sculptural formation.

This sculpture evokes the idea of a “throned crater,” inviting one to occupy a space within the form, as if being impacted by the natural forces that shaped it. It speaks to the union of nature and craftsmanship, a signature theme in the work. The use of materials such as metal, eco-binder, polyurethane, and sand highlights an ongoing exploration of material combinations and innovative techniques, creating a tactile and visually dynamic object. The varnishes and paints further accentuate the depths and textures of the piece, while underscoring a passion for material research and materiality-driven creation.

This work embodies a dedication to investigating how natural phenomena and geometric precision can coexist. The merging of these influences and materials serves as an ongoing study of texture, form, and structure, showcasing an approach to creating pieces that are both artistic and purposeful.
